Residents and community leaders worried about the future of Lords Park pool told Elgin City Council members this week the facility is vital to the east side neighborhood where it’s located.
As city officials begin 2023 budget discussions, pool supporters made their case to the Elgin City Council Wednesday for why the facility needs to reopen next year.“Being a kid in today’s world climate is hard. I think being a parent in today’s world climate is harder,” Caise said. Gifford Park Association President Paul Bednar said his group wants the city to find a ways to reopen pool next year and keep it open.The Wing Park Family Aquatic Center was open this year and the city also has an indoor pool at the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin.
Elgin Public Museum Board President Judy Hayner said her family didn’t take a summer vacation this year because, like many Elgin families right now, they couldn’t afford it. Instead, they’d spent days visiting local park amenities, she said.
