Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and Bob Latta (R-Ohio) questioned how the network will cover human rights abuses happening in China.

first reported Tuesday, asking the network to provide written answers to their questions and related documentation to the committee by February 7, days after the Olympics will have started on February 4.

Rodgers and Latta wrote that because of China’s history of censoring media, and “the fact that the International Olympic Committee stands to benefit financially from NBCUniversal’s coverage of the games,” the two are “concerned” about how NBC’s coverage may be impacted. The two questioned whether the Chinese government or the IOC has made requests or set limitations for NBC’s coverage, whether China has the power to block coverage from the Games to the United States, and whether the government or IOC has tried to influence NBC’s coverage of human rights violations occurring in China, specifically those against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang province.
