Republican Indiana state Sen. Andy Zay has entered the race to replace Rep. Jim Banks, who is retiring to run for U.S. Sen. Mike Braun's open seat.
Zay is the first elected official to enter the congressional race, although the field of candidates could grow. Banks first won the seat in 2016 after narrowly winning a six-candidate Republican primary.
As Republican Rep. Jim Banks is set to retire in hopes of ascending to the U.S. Senate, state Sen. Andy Zay will make a bid for Banks' open House seat. Zay, who owns a vehicle leasing business, replaced Banks in the state Senate in 2017 by winning a vote among Republican precinct committee members. He easily won reelection in 2018 and 2022.
