Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, calls for the banning of TikTok, the hugely popular video-sharing app, at the Capitol in Washington, Thursday, March 23, 2023.WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls on Thursday said America should ban TikTok and launch its own version of the popular Chinese-owned app,"AmeriTok," to promote values like gun ownership, capitalism and"responsible premium cigar smoking.
Nehls appeared outside the Capitol with three cigars sticking out of his front suit jacket pocket. He held a sign detailing the"Pillars of AmeriTok," which also included limited government and"farmland purchases by USA companies." The sign included a circular logo that showed a black profile of a man smoking a cigar over a red background.
Republicans and Democrats alike have sought to reign in TikTok. Congress and numerous states, including Texas, have already banned the social media app on government-owned devices.
