When it did, Ron White, the San Antonio Express-News’ art critic, wasn’t impressed.
“A filmmaker could easily go wrong with such free use of cliches,” White wrote. “The viewer might not recognize that ‘Star Wars’ is spoofing, rather than merely using movie cliches. Barring that, there is the threat that the continual parody could become simply tiresome.”
