Hip-hop legend talks about mixing classical music, funky beats in twist on holiday favorite.
About 13 years ago, a friend told rap icon Kurtis Blow he would be perfect for a new project called 'The Hip Hop Nutcracker ' and invited him to check out a rehearsal. Blow had no idea what to expect. But within a few minutes of watching performers do their thing, he was in. 'I saw the kids, B-boys and B-girls, and there was a DJ spinning funky hip-hop beats under this classical music of Tchaikovsky , and they were break dancing to it,' Blow said in a telephone interview.
She comes on and does a version for the WNBA, shouting out all the female basketball players. 'So we are bridging the gap between the genders in sports and also the age gap, the generation gap, in hip-hop.' The fact that he's still performing means a lot to him.
