If you tune into the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards tonight (June 17), you'll see Rami Malek, who won an Oscar and a Golden Globe earlier this year for his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, competing with Lady Gaga, who was nominated for both of those awards for her performance in the latest remake of A Star Is Born.
Olivia Colman bested Gaga at both the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Colman is not nominated for an MTV award.
This is the third year in a row that male and female actors have competed in the same category at the MTV awards. Prior to this, male and female actors competed against each other just twice . The awards originated in 1992.
