Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret is the long-awaited adaptation of the Judy Blume novel of the same name. Just as in the 1970 novel, the film centers around the titular Margaret as she enters a new school year and begins grappling with both her religious identity and the harsh realities of puberty. It's a harsh adjustment for her mother Barbara as well, who struggles to adjust to a more domestic life following their change of address.
Screen Rant sat down with Abby Ryder Fortson and Rachel McAdams to discuss building a mother-daughter relationship, their characters, and favorite filming moments. Rachel McAdams: Yes, absolutely. You just kind of dive in, and Abby makes it all really, really easy. I instantly felt like - it is building insta-families, and you get really good at it, but some people are better at it than others, and you're really good at it. Both Margaret and her mother go through a really harsh readjustment after the move in the film, and Barbara is really trying to get a handle on more domestic life.
