Junior sensation D.J. Wagner scores 21 as Camden bounces Sierra Canyon

“We came up Friday night and had a practice at a college. This morning, I felt good,” Camden coach Rick Brunson said. “The guys were loose and I knew we were ready. Against Montverde and those others, we second-guessed ourselves. Tonight, we were ready.”Player of the Year and arguably the top player in the Class of 2023, finished with a team-high 21 points - seven coming in the fourth quarter. He also had three rebounds and two steals.
While being outscored over the final three quarters, Camden answered every run and came up with big buckets at opportune times. Camden led 35-22 at the break, with Wagner leading the charge with 12 points. Haskins connected on his three buckets from beyond the arc for nine points, while Bradshaw chipped in five points - two coming on a nasty two-handed dunk off a Cornelius Robinson dish.
Camden took a 49-41 lead into the fourth quarter. Sierra Canyon cut its deficit to 52-48 and later to 54-51, but the Panthers responded with a quick 8-0 burst and held on down the stretch.Camden’s non-conference schedule has been the toughest in recent memory. In addition to playing the California power, the Panthers have faced two Florida powerhouses - Montverde Academy in the first session of the Metro Classic and Calvary Christian Academy in the Hoophall Classic.
