In a rare televised speech from Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth II urged citizens of the United Kingdom to 'remain united and resolute' in the face of the challenges resulting from the coronavirus crisis.
Early cases of COVID-19 are believed to be linked to a live-animal market in Wuhan, China.
The queen shared a personal memory of her first broadcast in 1940, saying:"We, as children, spoke from here at Windsor to children who had been evacuated from their homes and sent away for their own safety. Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know, deep down, that it is the right thing to do."The Queen also paid tribute to Britain’s National Health Service, at the forefront in the fight against the virus.
