Qualcomm's XR Enterprise Program this week to expedite adoption of Boundless XR, its platform for virtual and augmented reality:

This allows headsets to perform graphics-intensive tasks without being tethered to a computer. Qualcomm's membership program aims to foster enterprise collaboration for those on the platform. This points to friction in the adoption process, whereby companies face high costs and operational challenges associated with onboarding VR and AR applications.VRHealth provides VR physical therapy. Many patients who require physical therapy also have limited mobility.

Cognitive3D uses gaze detection to improve training. To ensure that trainees were paying attention in training, Cognitive3D designed a gaze detection software to go along with a VR vocational training program. According to Cognitive3D, the technologythe"industrial workers to perform tasks more efficiently and accurately, reduce error rate and have a positive impact on long-term memory."

Accenture knows where you look in the cereal aisle. In collaboration with Kellogg and Cognitive3D, Accenture used VR eye-tracking technology to record where consumers looked in a simulated grocery store aisle. This yielded a heatmap, allowing Kellogg to place the products they wanted to sell the most in the places that received the most views.

Enterprise adoption has been slow up to this point, however, because there is simply not enough supporting infrastructure around the AR and VR technology. Qualcomm's membership program is a step in the right direction, but a small step at that. Adoption will likely still be stymied by high hardware costs, a limited selection of developed applications, and network constraints due to the latency requirements of AR and VR. Headset-makers should look to establish partnerships that accelerate the development of these related technologies. Exclusive partnerships, in particular, may drive enterprise adoption of XR technologies, as all-in-one solutions will gather the most momentum.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy John and Derrick—they should go well together.” At press time, the couple was wondering if they could get a sportier model in a different color.
