Q: How old were you when you started watching ‘Survivor,’ and do you have any ‘Survivor’ traditions?We’d always watch with my grandma. The game kind of matured strategically and that’s when I really became a fan — of the strategy and the analysis. I became this couch guru where I would indoctrinate a lot of my friends. I run brackets every season, just for bragging rights, but we take it very seriously.A: I was a negotiator in law school. That’s very helpful on the island.
Being in a classroom with 20 other people who all want top grade, then on the island with 18 other people who all want that million dollars, it gave me that kind of high stakes preview.A: It’s like -40 C all week, this week. Literally walking to your car in Saskatchewan right now, you’re playing ‘Survivor’. So that gave me that head start on the survival aspect of it.
Saskatoon, I think, is a real melting pot. We have a lot of different views and perspectives. Figuring out how I fit into that was the same as figuring out how I fit into my tribe.A: Mosquitoes are definitely worse in Saskatchewan. There’s a lot of nasty, crazy bugs. The spiders are a little more scarier and the ants bite in Fiji. But I’ll tell you what, they didn’t put scratch on mosquitoes around a lake in Saskatchewan.Article contentA: It’s dark in the jungle at night. Like, very dark.
Q: Did you have a planned strategy entering the competition? And did you find that it was necessary to pivot, given the contestants in your tribe? A: When feet hit the sand, I was just focused on making friends because that’s something that I’m pretty good at in life. I wanted to to start and be kind of open for business, if that makes sense. In terms of adapting your strategy, you’ve got to kind of wait and see how I do and what I do.Article contentA: They don’t give you much, I’ll tell you that. We were familiarized with the concept of aqua dumping.A: What I was most excited to do was figure out how Kane Fritzler plays this game.
