SOME 26, 000 bogus Persons with Disability (PWD) identification cardholders in Quezon City were uncovered following the establishment of an automated registration system that effectively identified and excluded fraudulent claims.
This was revealed by Mayor Maria Josefina 'Joy' Belmonte as she lauded on Friday the city's Persons with Disability Affairs Office for implementing the rigorous verification processes that effectively excluded bogus beneficiaries.'Through this automated registration system, we can ensure that the assistance and support will reach those who genuinely need it as names of those individuals that falsely claimed to have disability have already been removed,' Belmonte said.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the QC-PDAO said the number of PWD ID holders in the city stood at around 78,000.'After the implementation of the automated system, it has been reduced to more than 52,000,' it said.'Additionally, it has been discovered that out of the 7,000 rejected applications, many contained counterfeit medical certificates or were submitted by individuals who did not qualify as a PWD,' the QC-PDAO said.
