Helpful holiday tip? Eat and drink moderately. Public health expert Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon, on Sunday, Dec. 18, reminded Filipinos to “have fun” while celebrating the holidays, but also “eat and drink in moderation.”
Public health expert Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon, on Sunday, Dec. 18, reminded Filipinos to “have fun” while celebrating the holidays, but also “eat and drink in moderation.”
“Wala namang masama na kumain. Actually, ang ating concern is the choice ng pagkain. Ibig sabihin ang pagkain natin ay dapat in moderation, hindi pwedeng todo, [at] dapat ay dahan-dahan ,” said Leachon in an interview over DZRH.According to Leachon, the upcoming holiday season may be the merriest, but it is also the deadliest. Citing Dr. Robert Kloner’s study that was published in 1973, Leachon stressed that most deaths in the United States alone occur from the period of Dec. 25 until Jan. 1.
“Throughout the year, starting November on thanksgiving, the death rate increases from December to January due to overindulgence of food,” said Leachon in Filipino. To prevent this grim occurrence, the health reform advocate urged the public to keep an eye on what they are eating and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“Hindi naman masamang magsaya. [Holiday] naman. Ang kailangan natin is control, and [of course], maintain our healthy lifestyle pa rin ,” he furthered.
