The Eagles pounded out 16 hits in the game, scoring three in the second inning, two in the third, four in the fifth and five in the sixth.
Jon Johnson Providence Christian baseball coach Casey Smith promptly instructed his team to"clean up" the dugout shortly after the conclusion of the game.
Providence starting pitcher Brooks Canady had a terrific outing in limiting Houston Academy to four hits in five innings of work before Roman Banner finished up. “I felt like we played really good yesterday – had good approaches; good at-bats,” Smith said. “I thought if we would just stick with it and get good at-bats … a couple slipped through and a couple we hit hard … and then some huge hits with runners in scoring position.
Both teams have clinched state playoff berths, but home-field advantage for the opening round will go to the Eagles. In the fifth inning, Sullivan drove in Canady with an RBI triple to deep left-center field and Win Brock followed with an RBI single to make it 7-0. Banner followed with a single and courtesy runner Rylan Banner scored after the ball was misplayed in the outfield. A final run in the inning came when Banner came in from third after David McClurkin successfully stole second and the throw back to home trying to cut down Banner was just late.
The Raiders got a final run in the bottom of the inning when Chase King reached on an infield hit with two outs to bring in Adam Boyd, who singled to lead off the inning.
