Chief Appraiser Michael Amezquita with the Bexar Appraisal District had predicted a new record and, in fact, said he’d be “shocked” if it didn’t happen this year, as values have risen 28 percent locally. Bexar County has been “in the middle of the pack” amid rising property values statewide, with appraisals up 46 percent in Comal County, 53 percent in Hays County and 56 percent in Travis County compared with last year.On ExpressNews.
Altogether, the appraisal district has processed 155,747 protests for 2022 filed electronically, by mail or through forms dropped off at district headquarters downtown. Of the 71,405 appeals filed online, 48,995 were from property owners themselves and 22,410 from agents representing owners., which involves online settlement negotiations or a 15-minutes session with an appraisal district representative by phone or video conference.
Amezquita encourages homeowners to represent themselves at least once before deciding whether to retain someone to represent them.Property owners who requested the evidence filed by the appraisal district to justify the initial appraisal are in a good position to come to a fair resolution, according to the appraisal district.
