Demolition is to start in the fall. A new school amalgamating King George, Pleasant Hill and Princess Alexandra is expected to open in 2025.
The Saskatoon public school board passed a motion to close it during its Tuesday night meeting, the division said in a release., after a months-long process exploring multiple sites. The division had also considered a portion of Optimist Park. The work is being referred to as the City Centre Project until an official name for the new pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 school is selected.
It’s also very close to some existing services, including those provided by the City of Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Tribal Council, like the White Buffalo Youth Lodge.The three amalgamating schools have a combined $68 million in deferred maintenance costsPrincess Alexandra students will attend other neighbourhood schools; the division will offer them bus service to King George. The Spadina Early Learning Centre, which is located in Princess Alexandra School, will be relocated to W.P.
