The Prince of Wales visited Sheffield Tuesday for an event associated with his Homewards initiative.
The Prince of Wales visited Sheffield, some 170 miles north of London, in support of his Homewards initiative, which is meant to address homelessness and housing insecurity. William announced the five-year initiative last summer, promising “innovative new solutions” in his mission to “end homelessness for good.” He said his hope is to make homelessness “rare, brief and unrepeated.” Sheffield is one of six U.K. areas highlighted in the project.
“Involving those with lived experience throughout the creation and delivery of Homewards is one of the program’s guiding principles, with co-creation of homelessness solutions recognized as critical best practice in ensuring initiatives have lasting impact,” Prince William's office at Kensington Palace said. Housing insecurity and homelessness have long been issues close to William's heart, and were important causes for his late mother, Princess Diana, as well.
