The Wagner founder suggested the mercenary group would not fight in Ukraine and “set off on a new journey to Africa” in a video posted Wednesday.

Prigozhin reportedly indicated in the video his group would no longer fight in Ukraine and would instead “set off on a new journey to Africa,” adding the group could return to Ukraine “when we will be confident that we will not be asked to make an embarrassment of ourselves and our experience.” Prigozhin was also critical of the Russian Ministry of Defense, suggesting what the Russian military was doing in Ukraine “is a disgrace.”Prigozhin ordered his forces to march toward Moscow in a “march of justice” last month, following a year of worsening relations between his mercenary group and the Kremlin. Prigozhin accepted a peace deal brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, requiring the group to abandon Russia and move to Belarus.
