June is Pride Month -- a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. It should also be a time to show one another mutual respect and understanding, amid the polarizing effects of religion and politics that often lead to conflict, writes columnist Leslie Kouba.

Sometimes, we celebrate a subculture. Black History Month and Juneteenth, the Christian trifecta of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, and Women’s History Month and its partner, International Women’s Day represent subsets of our civic soup.
