President Biden must fully resolve to aid Ukraine with weapons | Opinion
A Ukrainian serviceman near the border with Belarus, Ukraine, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023.There can be no more important foreign policy goal for the United States now than assuring total Ukrainian victory over Russia.The Biden administration has done important work to provide American military aid to Ukraine, and that aid has been the difference in the war so far.
At each turn, Ukraine has had to beg for important weapons systems while weeks and even months slipped by that cost the lives of soldiers in the field and civilians in their homes.In almost every case, the U.S. has relented and provided weapons and defense systems like Patriot missiles, HIMARS rockets, Bradley armored vehicles and now Abrams tanks to the Ukranians.
As David J. Kramer, executive director of the George W. Bush Institute, noted in a recent policy paper: “Helping Ukraine push out all Russian occupying and invading forces from Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, is in the interests of the United States.”
