Sofia Bowes scores 17 in EBAL championship win over rival Monte Vista, Nyana Asiasi hits four three-pointers in Salesian’s TCAL-Rock triumph against Pinole Valley
San Ramon Valley captured the East Bay Athletic League girls basketball tournament championship Saturday, rallying in the second half to defeat rival Monte Vista 63-52.The Wolves also got 11 points apiece from Sierra Chambers and Amanda Kerner as they improved to 25-3.
Salesian dominated from start to finish as it locked up the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division championship. The Pride led 15-6 after one quarter, 31-10 at halftime, and 46-23 after three quarters. Forward Nyana Asiasi led Salesian in scoring with 19 points. She hit four three-pointers, including three in a row near the end of the third quarter. The senior had been in a slump over the last few games, and credited her teammates for helping her break out of it.
Pinole Valley guard Imani Johnson led the team with eight points, and To’Shia Reynolds and Stephania Salazar each scored four points. Despite the loss, coach Brian Gaither was optimistic about the shape his team was in going into the section playoff.
