Does San Antonio have a serial art thief? Three galleries have been burglarized this month, and security footage from two of them seems to show the same suspect.
specializing in contemporary workAnArte Gallery, which is north of Alamo Heights on Broadway, was hit May 6 and May 16. Felder Gallery, which is on North Main, was struck twice as well, on May 6 and May 11. And Art Gallery Prudencia, which is next door to Felder, was burglarized Saturday.
He said the paintings taken from all three galleries reflect a youthful sensibility. And they all fit together. At AnArte, the gallery initially was vandalized but nothing was taken. Ten days later, two paintings by Lionel Sosa valued at about $40,000 were taken. The five paintings are worth about $32,700, Felder said. Repairs to the windows cost $750 the first time and $600 the second.
