With the impending departure of Porter County Development & Storm Water Management Director Bob Thompson at the end of the month, an update on the county’s efforts to develop a new solar ordinance has been postponed.
on Aug. 17 on the grounds of failing to meet the standards set forth in the 2020 solar ordinance and the county’s unified development ordinance. Any future application by NextEra or any other company to put a solar farm on agricultural land would have to be made under a new ordinance or an appeal to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Solar Subcommittee had intended to have a working meeting of sorts at the Sept. 27 Plan Commission meeting to look at maps to see where solar power generation might fit into the county, according to Regnitz. She said the subcommittee had hoped to have a draft ordinance by October, but now the timeline is uncertain.
