Some parts of the park will be closed for months.

Park officials believe the Instagram-famous Overlook Trail, found off Highway 1 at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur, will be open"within a week or two" following a landslide caused by heavy rains. The short loop leads to a spectacular view of McWay Falls, an 80-foot waterfall that plunges into the Pacific Ocean.
"Storm damage and unsafe conditions" have kept Julia Pfeiffer Burns and 20 other California state parks shuttered following the heavy rain, officialsJulia Pfeiffer Burns State Park will reopen to visitors once the Overlook Trail is cleared, but that doesn’t mean all of the park will be accessible."The recent storms did a pretty good damage on the trail systems there," California State Parks Big Sur Sector Superintendent Marcos Ortega told SFGATE.
Other damage includes a redwood tree that crashed onto the 70-foot bridge on the Pfeiffer Falls Trail. The well-known Tanbark Trail sustained"major damage," and crews discovered"a couple dozen downed trees" while assessing storm loss, Ortega said. The shorter Partington Cove Trail, a dirt wagon path starting from a turnout off Highway 1, also saw several trees fall in California’s recent round of storms.
Because of that damage, Ortega said Tanbark, which passes the Tin House landmark, and Partington Cove are at least"a couple months out" from reopening.
