Alligators are not native to New Jersey.
A search was underway this week to capture and relocate an alligator that was spotted in a brook in Middlesex County.
Officers from the Middlesex Borough Police Department received a report that the approximately 3-to-4 foot long gator was seen in the Ambrose Brook and were able to confirm that it was true, according to a statement from the department.Officers were working with theAlligators are not native to New Jersey, so it was unclear how it made its way into the brook. A DEP spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.
Anyone who saw the alligator was asked to contact the Middlesex Police Department immediately at 356-1900 extension 0 or dial 9-1-1. Police cautioned anyone who spotted it to not approach or attempt to capture it.
