People in multiple towns in Maine are under shelter-in-place orders as police continue to search for a man accused of killing at least 16 people.

A U.S. official told AP that he was taken by police for an evaluation after military officials became concerned about erratic behavior during training in mid-July at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. New York state police took Card to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for evaluation, the official said."Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Card II is a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the Army Reserve, enlisting in December 2002. He has no combat deployments.
The active shooter incidents began around 6:56 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley in Lewiston. Twelve minutes later at 7:08 p.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a shooter at Schemenges Bar & Grille Restaurant on Lincoln Street. Lewiston is about 36 miles away from Portland and is the second-largest city in Maine.

The last patient is presumed to have been discharged, but Alexander did not confirm that with the media. "I'm so deeply saddened as every one of the 1.3 million people of this beautiful state. Biden ordered flags at federal buildings and military bases to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of the shooting. Flags at the U.S. Capitol are also flying at half-staff by orders of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
