The incident happened near the intersection of Whitehead Avenue and Russell Avenue in South River, authorities said.
A search was underway for a white work van that authorities say fatally struck a 14-year-old bicyclist in South River and fled the scene, according to a release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police were called to the intersection of Whitehead Avenue and Russell Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. and the boy, who was not identified, had been hit, the office said. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Anyone with information that could aid investigators was urged to call South River Police Detective Kenneth Nale at 732-254-9002 ext. 123 or Sgt. Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4328.
