A man on a moped hit a woman who was jogging in Manhattan and then dragged her by a tree and sexually assaulted her, police say.
It happened Saturday around 11 a.m. in Fort Tryon Park.People who use Fort Tryon Park for exercise or to enjoy the sunset at the overlook say they have always felt safe.
"I usually think it's well-populated and it seems pretty safe, so that's pretty surprising," said Susana Cervantes.The attack in broad daylight on a Saturday is hard to imagine for those who have been coming to the park for years. "And I'm using this path very often, and most of the time it's after 10 p.m.," says Irina Kantorovich.Detectives spent the day fathering evidence, and were focused on a stairwell that leads to a wooded area. There are no cameras in the area so police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area during the time of the attack who may have any relevant information.
