One victim told police he heard car alarms, left his home and saw a black SUV down the street with people breaking windows of cars. Nothing was taken from the victim’s vehicle, but the glove compartment had been rifled, according to the police report.
One victim, a 31-year-old man, had the windows of his Honda Civic damaged as it was parked outside his home in the 2100 block of West 7th Street.
Police said the vehicles may be connected to the shooting in Public Square, which sent a man to the hospital July 1 when drivers of a white Kia Optima were spotted breaking into vehicles. “This morning, we woke up around 5 a.m. to police cars right out on the corner,” she said. “My husband went to work early. And he drove up and down Jefferson and 5th, and he counted at least 19 cars that were hit.”and The Plain Dealer have reached out to Councilman Kerry McCormack and police for more information, including full police reports for the break-ins that occurred early Monday morning.
