Pokémon Journeys' English dub recently finished Ash and Leon's battle, and the dub included an amazing callback to the original series.
One of the latest episodes of Pokémon Journeys’ English dub just made an amazing callback that’ll have 90s kids crying from pure nostalgia. In 2022, Pokémon Journeys surprised fans and critics alike by not only pitting Ash against Leon, the world’s strongest trainer in the anime, but by having him beat Leon, making Ash the Pokémon world champion, himself.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While the English dub of Pokémon still hasn’t finished Ash’s journey, it’s already celebrating it by including an incredible callback to the first season.
Pokémon Brings Back Its Original Theme Song One thing that’s especially noteworthy about the Pokémon English dub including the original theme song is how perfectly it adapts the original Japanese version of the anime. When that scene happened in the Japanese version, it was scored to the original theme song for the Japanese anime, “Aim to be a Pokémon Master”.
Gotta Catch 'Em All Fixes The Pokémon Dub’s Big Music Problem Another great thing about the English dub including the original Pokémon theme is how it avoids the dub’s biggest music problem. Like many anime marketed to children in the 90s and 2000s, most of the music in Pokémon’s dub was taken out and replaced with an original score that often falls flat of the Japanese score, and while other anime phased this out over time, Pokémon never stopped doing it.
Something like this also bodes well for the English dub of Pokémon Horizons. If Pokémon Journeys was able to break the English anime’s trend of not using the same score as the original Japanese, then it’s entirely possible that Horizons could be the first Pokémon anime to use the same score as the original Japanese.
