When Exxon Mobil first built its campus north of Houston, the sprawling 385-acre complex set off a wave of development nearby.
Real estate developers seized on the opportunity to build more apartments, offices and shopping centers in the Spring area as they prepared for 10,000 employees to move into Exxon's campus back in 2014. At the time local economic developers called this"the Exxon Mobil effect." Now that same campus is becoming Exxon's official corporate headquarters after it announced its relocating its headquarters from Irving outside of Dallas. Even though this move isn't as big as the campus construction itself, the move still creates a little more demand for housing and retail services in an already growing Houston suburb.
