Two barangay chairpersons were killed following separate gun attacks in the provinces of Cebu and Maguindanao del Sur early this week, the Philippine National Police said Thursday.
“We recorded two incidents particularly diyan sa Cebu where the victims were identified as a barangay captain and his wife. Another case in Maguindanao. Both transpired March 14,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said at a press briefing.
In the Maguindanao incident, Fajardo said the police are now reviewing CCTV footage that may help in the investigation. According to her, the two cases are not yet considered as election-related incidents because the poll period has not started yet.
