Planned Parenthood says it will drop federal funding over the Trump administration's rule blocking the reproductive rights organization from talking to patients about abortion services
"Due to an unethical and dangerous gag rule, the Trump administration has forced Planned Parenthood grantees out of Title X," Alexis McGill Johnson, the acting president and CEO of the organization, said in a phone call with reporters. Johnson said the organization will continue to fight the rule in court. She said the regulation will"reverberate across the country" and said the move amounted to an"attack on reproductive health care" by the Trump administration.
Some grantees are now blaming the government for their own actions -- having chosen to accept the grant while failing to comply with the regulations that accompany it -- and they are abandoning their obligations to serve their patients under the program."The Title X program serves about 4 million people a year, according to HHS. Planned Parenthood covers 40% of Title X's patients and has been involved with the program since it began, according to the organization.
