In a statement to POLITICO, Heck downplayed the group's role in the program and questioned its leaders' priorities. Oregon Health Authority spokesperson Jonathan Modie told POLITICO that the state has not tapped available Title X funding since July 15, and is using the state’s general fund to operate family planning clinics serving more than 37,000 people. He said the agency is “still considering next steps” as the deadline for complying with the rule nears.
