Connor Joe returned to Coors Field Monday, not with a chip on his shoulder, but with a heart full of gratitude for the Rockies organization.

Right-hander German Marquez, on the 15-day injured list for inflammation in his right forearm, is making excellent progress. He threw from 90 feet without pain on Monday and is scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Thursday and Sunday. Marquez admitted he was nervous when his forearm tightened up last Monday in a game against St. Louis, but said he was relieved when an MRI revealed no major damage.

“After the MRI, I felt a lot better about things, and that helped,” he said. “I feel like I’m making good progress.”Right-hander Daniel Bard, who was expected to be the closer before he was placed on the injured list right before the season began because of issues with anxiety, is expected to be activated for Tuesday night’s game against the Pirates.

Bard, on a rehab assignment, pitched an inning for Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, striking out three after giving up a leadoff single to the Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., who was making a rehab start for Triple-A El Paso. “I felt very good,” Bard said. “I felt good in the extended game last week, too, when I threw two innings. I felt really smooth in the Triple-A game and the ticked up and I felt everything was in line.”Right-hander Antonio Senzatela, returning from knee surgery, is scheduled to pitch three innings in an extended spring training game on Tuesday in Arizona. If that goes well, he’s scheduled to pitch on Sunday at Double-A Hartford. The Rockies hope Senzatela will return to the rotation next month.

Velasquez is coming off an excellent start against the Cardinals, scattering three hits over six innings and earning his first win as a Pirate in a 5-0 shutout at Busch Stadium. He played last season for the White Sox, going 3-3 with a 4.78 ERA in 27 appearances . Against the Rockies, he’s 2-1 with a 4.75 ERA in nine games .Pirates RHP Johan Oviedo at Rockies LHP Austin Gomber , 1:10 p.m., ATTRMRockies RHP Noah Davis at Phillies RHP Aaron Nola , 5:05 p.m.
