A group of Filipino students created a drone that can float on water to collect trash in seas, lakes, and rivers.
Called the Ocdron, the aqua drone is the thesis of Jean Michel Gomez, Allain Vincent Gaspar, Mel Ivan Magsino, and Christian Gaspar, who study software engineering at iAcademy.
The drone is powered by solar energy and controlled using a mobile app. Aside from collecting trash, the device releases lime powder to balance the pH level of the water. According to the group, they developed the aqua drone after noticing that there are more cleanup drives on land than in bodies of water.
They also said their device is cheaper than other waste pickup drones, so hopefully it can be used by more people.
