This year's Alaska Run for Women, which raises money for breast cancer initiatives and awareness of women’s health, raised $157,000 this year and drew over 3,500 participants, organizers said. by sportsadn

A pink ribbon is painted onto a woman’s face to show support and awareness for breast cancer as she waits to participate in the 30th annual Alaska Run for Women held at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

On Saturday, many of those women congregated on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage for the 30th annual Alaska Run for Women. “You know, I’m starting to come back,” she said. “My energy yesterday, three weeks after radiation finished, was the very first day that I felt like myself and I feel great today. And I’m sure that the energy from all the women and the men here and all the support is part of that.”

Carol Butler, who serves on the board of directors for Casting for Recovery, works at their booth during the 30th annual Alaska Run for Women held at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus on Saturday. There is no official entry fee, but participants are asked to donate what they can. Organizers say that detail was included in the charter so there is no barrier for participation. The run keeps 70% of funds raised for in-state programs and donations with no more than 30% going to grants outside Alaska.

Brennan edged past runner-up Anna Dalton in their ongoing back-and-forth battle at the run. Dalton won the 2019 race, the last time it was held in person. In 2018, Brennan narrowly Dalton to take the win. “They have got grants for the Alaska Run for Women in the past and I’ve also been a participant of that,” she said.
