David Beckham has recalled being spat at in the street after irate fans blamed him for England's exit from the 1998 World Cup.
David Mundee Pike County’s football team is now moving forward, but will have to navigate through some player suspensions following a ruling by the Alabama High School Athletic Association regarding Friday night’s brawls and stoppage of play against Headland.
The Bulldogs host New Brockton Friday night in a Class 3A, Area 2 region in Brundidge. It is Pike County’s Homecoming game. The national high school rule mandates suspension of 20 percent of athletic contests for leaving the bench area in such situations, which is a two-game suspension in football. The problems, according to news reports, started when a short third-down pass by Pike County was caught and Headland defensive player Caleb Dozier knocked the receiver hard to the ground. Players for both teams exchanged words and some pushing and shoving and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called on both teams.
Both schools were suspended from any football activity by the association on Saturday, a normal step in a situation where fights stop a game.
