Thousands lined tree-lined streets for the King William Fair’s parade, sandwiched between the big parades, Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau, for Fiesta’s final weekend.
“These are just people in their backyards and associations doing their own thing,” Tom Rauch said of the parade’s participants. “ is more restricted. Anybody can do this.”Figures from all walks of San Antonio participated in the parade, greeting the seated and standing visitors on sidewalks and between merchant canopies. Some who lived on the parade path hosted private parties.
There were marchers dressed in colonial military uniforms, floats of local businesses and marching bands of all kinds. The band and color guard from Brackenridge High School, located in the south part of the king William neighborhood, closely followed the parade’s front line. And it wouldn’t be a Fiesta parade without members ofHelping the parade live up to its funky reputation, some floats spewed bubbles while others covered streets and scalps in confetti. Some floats had more dogs than people.
Joining in the fun was Mayor Ron Nirenberg, riding an early 20th-century vehicle that was nearly the same color as his medal-covered green vest.
