A supercell thunderstorm rolled through the Hill Country on Thursday, dropping gigantic hail across the region.

Gigantic hail fell over the Texas Hill country Thursday night as a supercell thunderstorm traveled more than 100 miles, from Brady , about 65 miles east of San Angelo , all the way through San Marcos . The hardest hit areas were in Blanco and Hays counties, where hail up to 5 inches in diameter was reported. At 7:50 p.m., the National Weather Service confirmed a storm report in Johnson City , about 40 miles west of Austin , where a storm chaser witnessed 5-inch hail.

Several other images across social media showed hail 3 to 5 inches occurring also in Dripping Springs and Wimberley in Hays County. The thunderstorm lost some strength just as it approached San Marcos. However, it still produced 2.5-inch hail near the San Marcos Premium Outlets, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service also reported that several home windows and a solar panel were destroyed at a home of a retired law enforcement officer.
