Houston Zoo sea lion, Ariel, turns 21, celebrates with Little Mermaid ice cream cake

The 21-year-old sea lion is the oldest of nine sea lions. Sea lions generally live 25 to 30 years in captivity. Ariel celebrated in a newly upgraded habitat which was recently opened as part as the larger Galapagos exhibit in April. Ariel was originally from a California rescue facility and was moved to Houston with three other sea lions. The sea lions now live in a habitat that is four times the size of the old sea lion habitat at the Houston Zoo.
