After Ramos denied his appeal, Walker used his deceptive move to pick off Masataka Yoshida at first base. He didn’t allow another baserunner until Raimel Tapia’s two-out single in the fourth inning. Walker threw 85 pitches. More than half were splitters, which was by design after talking to pitching coach Caleb Cotham.
But the biggest development involved Walker, a mid-rotation starter who is in some ways the glue that holds the rest of the starting staff together.
