Shown here are PHI-NADO chief Dr. Alex Pineda, PSC chairman Richard Bachmann, PSC Executive Director Paulo Tatad, and PHI-NADO testing operations head Nathan Vasquez.WITH the World Anti-Doping Agency compliance issue finally settled and cleared, the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization are moving forward and making sure that all bases are covered from hereon.
To achieve that, the PSC wants PHI-NADO to become a fully independent body as practiced by other countries, and continue to educate all the stakeholders, including the various national sports associations , and the thousands of athletes and coaches under its watch. “We are making sure we do the necessary steps. Our friends in Malaysia, Indonesia Thailand gave a lot of insights. And given all of that, we are in the right direction,” said Tatad during the forum presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, PLDT/Smart, and ArenaPlus, the 24/7 sports app in the country. Also gracing the forum were PSC chairman Richard Bachmann, PHI-NADO chief Dr. Alex Pineda and testing operations head Nathan Vasquez.
“The threat that came with WADA non- compliance meant that starting last Feb. 22 we would not have been allowed to host international sporting events like FIBA qualifiers and that if a Filipino wins in international competitions, the Philippine flag cannot fly. Of course, our national pride,” said Pineda.
