Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon urged concerned governments to allow the safe transit of Filipino citizens and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) out of Gaza, Lebanon and Israel. Gordon noted that in the last 24 hours, Israel has accelerated its airstrikes on Gaza, and a ground assault is imminent.

He said that civilians and those who are wounded may be allowed to get out of the war zone and be spared from being casualties of the war. According to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, released this month, 4.6 percent of the 1.96 million OFWs are in Western Asia, which includes Israel and Lebanon. This figure does not include Filipinos abroad who are not OFWs.
