The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assisted 934 motorcycle riders who figured in accidents across the country in the first half of the year 2023.
As of Tuesday, July 25, PRC data showed that the EMS has responded to 5,843 incidents, of which 934 were involved in a motorcycle accident, for a total of 823 patients in the first semester of the year.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon stated that the PRC continuously enhances its EMS to the country's needs. He reminded the public who are experiencing or witnessing a medical emergency to dial "143 or 8970 2300". Gordon stressed that riding a motorcycle is already part of the Filipinos' way of life, which is why riders should be extra careful on the road to lower the incidents of motorcycle crashes.
PRC added that the World Health Organization reported in October 2022 that nearly 30 percent of all road crash deaths globally involve powered two to three-wheeled vehicles, such as motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, and electric bikes .
