There were several reports of the coyote being seen in North Wildwood.

Pet owners in North Wildwood were warned Tuesday after people reported seeing a coyote in town.

“Coyotes are opportunistic feeders, and pet owners should use caution when letting out your cat or dog,” the North Wildwood Police Department said in a Facebook post. “As a precaution, please keep your indoor/outdoor cats inside fore next several days. When walking your dogs, remain vigilant to your surroundings, and keep them close to you.”

Coyotes are mostly active at night but it is not uncommon to seem them during the day. Attacks on humans are very rare, police said. Still, families with small children were asked to be cautious. Coyotes should be left alone if spotted and not approached as they can bite and may carry infectious diseases, authorities said.
