Fresh anti-UN protests hit DRC's city of Goma while UN says it has launched a probe into whether its peacekeeper killed a protester in northeastern Beni city
This frame grab taken from video footage shows crowds as they confront UN peacekeepers in a UN compound on the outskirts of the northeastern DRC town of Beni on November 25, 2019.
The death occurred on Tuesday in the northeastern city of Beni, where angry locals have been demonstrating against MONUSCO, accusing it of failing to protect them against a notorious militia. The mounting toll has led people to take to the streets, accusing the authorities and MONUSCO of inaction.Six people have been killed in the protests since Monday.
It says the ADF – a group of Ugandan origin that has plagued the eastern DRC since the mid-1990s – has killed more than a thousand civilians since October 2014.
