The PCG said it earlier responded to a distressed tanker carrying 800,000 liters of industrial oil near Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, after the vessel encountered engine trouble.
In a statement, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said it is also monitoring the area for any potential harm to life and livelihoods due to its distance from the shoreline. The agency said poor weather has made it difficult to access the area — limiting observation of the impact to aircraft survey.
The oil tanker drifted towards waters off Balingawan Point, Oriental Mindoro due to rough sea conditions.
