The Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Inc. (PCAPI) pushed for the immediate grant of incentives for electric vehicles (EVs) as it cited the benefits of 'decarbonization' to public health.
PCAPI Vice President for External Affairs Jeremiah Dwight Sebastian said Filipinos will benefit from EVs because these have zero tailpipe emissions unlike gasoline-powered vehicles.'Electric vehicles are critical technology to push forward the 'decarbonization' effort since this will allow us to have a more flexible option in its energy source... this can also minimize what I believe [is] a major issue of pollution in highly urbanized [communities],' Sebastian said.
The government aims to shift to EVs to decarbonize the Philippines and address the effects of climate change. The Department of Energy plans to roll out 2,454, 200 EVs such as cars, tricycles, motorcycles and buses, and install 65,000 charging stations nationwide by 2028 to speed up the shift to electric vehicles.In January this year, Malacañang issued Executive Order No. 12 series of 2023 granting tax incentives to EVs but excluding e-motorcycles.
